Abstract

Background and Objectives: The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of oligohydramnioson fetal weight especially at third trimester of pregnancy. Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted in Western Regional Hospital of Pokharafrom 28th April to 6th July 2013.In this study 65 singleton pregnant females with gestational age from37 - 42 weeks with less amniotic fluid index (AFI) were analyzed for fetal weight and perinataloutcome. Data were expressed as number (percentage). Independent t test was performed foranalysis of the sample, P value <0.05 was taken as level of significance. Results: Women with oligohydramnios were significantly associated with an abnormal antepartumfetal heart rate (FHR) and not associated with Low birth weight, meconium stained fluid, Apgarscore less than 7 or NICU admission. Also subjects with AFI of 5.0 cm or less had a higher rate ofcesarean section for fetal distressConclusion: Isolated oligohydramnios is not associated with impaired fetal growth or an increasedrisk of adverse perinatal outcomes.
