Ureteroscopic lithotripsy services in Scheer Memorial Hospital
Abstract
Urinary calculus is the one of the commonest disease with increase of incidence as the diagnostic methods developed. Treatment of it is changing from open surgery to minimally invasive or totally invasive surgery. In our hospital, minimally invasive urinary calculus treatment as ureterorenoscopic lithotripsy (URSL) was started from December 2007 and till September 2008 we had treated 50 patients with it. We analyze the result of URSL did in our hospital and compare it with different studies of the world. We found age group 20-40 is the commonest group to develop urinary calculus. we had 20 – 40 age group are most common patient for URSL. Most of our patients had single stone of size > 5mm in lower and mid ureter. Our success rate for insertion of URS is 98% (49/50) and stone free rate is 97.8% (44/45). Our per-operative complication is 2% and post-operative major complication also is 2%. Thus, in our initial experience, URS/L is safe and choice of management for lower and mid ureteric calculus.References
